"I trained today with Tom Lowe and Stef Harkon. It was sunny, it was windy, they were super-fit, and I was knackered. Let me explain."
"Actually, it's quite simple. St Ives-bred Tom Lowe is in his mid-20s and unless you've been living on Mars, you'll know that he's one of the foremost chargers this country has ever seen. Stef Harkon is also based in St Ives and has for the past 25 years been a UK surf-skate legend. I'm not sure which one of them is fitter. Stef is 45 but is the kind of man for whom five hours' exercise is a warm-up. Tom is regularly surfing the kind of waves that the overwhelming majority of people would find terrifying just to watch, let alone be close enough to catch a whiff of salt spray."

12ft sharks spotted off Cornish coast
"Beneath the surface of the clear blue sea, the menacing black shadow of a huge shark glides by just feet away from an intrepid lone surfer."
"It is big enough to swallow him whole, yet this monster from the deep is a gentle giant who was not bothered by human company - nor saw him as a passing snack."

British surfing's great white hope.
"Jayce Robinson, the 18-year-old from St Ives who is the UKs hottest surfing prospect for years, and his personal trainer Stef Harkon look unfeasibly fit, not to mention enviably tanned, as they run up and down the sand dunes of Porthcurno. Training is tough, and many onlookers wince as Harkon hurls a medicine ball at Robinson, knocking him to the sand."

Working on water: Britains lifeguards
Take Stefan Harkon, regarded by many as the lifeguards lifeguard. In his teens he was one of the first professional skateboarders in the UK. This led him to surfing and he gravitated from Liverpool to St Ives in Cornwall, where he was working as a lifeguard by the time he was 20. Remarkably, a quarter of a century later he is still doing the same job.
Stef is twice the age of most lifeguards, says Matt Smith, a professional surfer and fellow lifeguard at Gwenver beach in Cornwall, but he is easily as fit as us, if not fitter. Whats more, he has five times our experience. He has dedicated his life to lifeguarding and is a huge inspiration.
